Last weekend was such a crazy, fun weekend. One where we had no electricity from Friday afternoon through Sunday night. Late Friday afternoon we were all going out (for my 11 year old’s birthday) to Enchanted Castle in Lombard. We had to run a few errands beforehand and on our way there, we drove straight into the storm (which we had no idea was coming because we never watch the news and rarely listen). The wind was so strong that we thought some of the street signs would break. When we got to Enchanted Castle, we were told that they were closing until the storm passed because of power surges. So we went out to eat instead. We were in the restaurant during the storm and came home to total darkness. A huge tree branch across the street had fallen on the power lines.

But it was so romantic! We have tons of candles and a generator for the fridge, so it was no problem for us.

We have two fireplaces.  One in the living room (pictured above) and one in the basement.
We don’t burn wood in the living room fireplace, but always have it filled with candles.

Everything looks so pretty by candle light.  Danny couldn’t get enough of the candles.  He just sat there and watched the fire and played with the wax for hours.  He even told us that he wished we were Amish so that we never had electricity.

On Saturday we had a family birthday party to go to and when we got home, we made chocolate covered almonds and pecan brittle.
Yum, that was good.  But my jaw hurt from all the hard chewing.

On Sunday, Father’s Day, we spent most of the day just bumming around the house.  We all slept in.  Our oldest, Alek, made pancakes for us from scratch.  We played board games and then headed outside for the boys to shoot their bow and arrows and bb guns (good old fashioned boy fun).

I think we need to institute a “power free” weekend once in a while.
The kids had so much fun that even their DS systems didn’t interest them.

Lisa came in with her new little guy Michael.  We’ve been photographing Lisa’s family for a long time.
She has 3 girls and now has a beautiful little boy!
(You think if we had a 4th kid it would be a girl?  NOT!  LOL)

I really loved this session.  Michael did such a great job.  He slept for us a little bit too so that we could
get those precious sleepy newborn images.  I love the ones with Mom below.

Because we loved all the images from this session, we’ve posted a slideshow with all of the images.   Enjoy!

I saw this video today and thought it was so cute.  If a pug can go green, so can we.  We try really hard to be green at our house.  We take our own bags when we go grocery shopping, we try to buy items that don’t have a lot of packaging, we print on the back of paper, we recycle when we can and we basically try not to abuse the natural resources we have.
And I’m a nazi when it comes to shutting off the lights when a room is not in use! :)   We’ve even gone green at the studio (our Product Guide is even  in PDF format – why waste paper when we don’t need to).

I know it’s hard to do everything, but we should all start and do a little bit, and a little bit can make
a world of difference to our and our children’s futures.

Enjoy this great little video.  Peace!

Dub FX is a worldwide street performer and studio recording artist from Australia.  His trademark is the use of loop and effect pedals combined with his voice.  He creates intricate hip hop, reggae and drum and bass rhythms.

I saw this video on YouTube and absolutely loved it.  I am always amazed and how much talent people have.  And this man is talented!  Wow.  I love his music.  I hope you enjoy it too!

Mitchell is afraid of thunderstorms and wants to sleep with us every time there is a storm.  Sometimes we let him crawl into bed with us and then when he falls asleep, we carry him back to bed.  Well the other day it was storming all night and into the morning and Mitch crawled back into to bed with us early in the morning.  And before we carried him off back into his room, I couldn’t help but grab the camera.  I loved the light coming in through the windows and Mitch looking so cute and cozy laying on the bed.
And as uncomfortable as it is when he sleeps with us, I can’t help but enjoy cuddling up to him!
And it melts my heart when he says that one of his most favorite things to do is cuddle with Mom and Dad!

It’s so nice that he still wants to cuddle.  We know it will be all too soon that he won’t want to anymore!
